When your creative spirit and your imagination meet, it can open up your subconscious in ways that talking can’t.

Do you…

  • Have trouble putting certain feelings and thoughts into words?
  • Enjoy learning something by doing it rather than talking about it?
  • Want to find help, but you find it hard to leave your house?
  • Find that you like using your hands and tend to play or fidget?
  • Find it difficult to express how you’re feeling on the spot?
  • Feel uncomfortable confronting your barriers and hardships through a back and forth conversation?

A typical session with me looks like:

Let’s Check-in

We’ll use this time to reflect as I check-in with you– you can share as much or as little as you need. Our check-in includes a brief meditation to help eliminate mental clutter and bring you into the present or the session.

*Your initial session may be slightly longer so we can get to know each other more.

Let’s Create

Bring out your inner child as we integrate an art therapy of your choice– sand play, clay therapy, drawing, painting– this is customised to you. In the lead-up, I will share instructions on what to bring along with you for each session. I will be there to guide and support you throughout the activity.

Let’s Debrief

When your creative process is completed for this session, we’ll reflect again to talk through any feelings that were unearthed throughout the session and what they mean for you. You’ll always have an optional takeaway activity between now and your next session to explore and unpack further if you need.

There’s no right or wrong way to express yourself– there isn’t just one way either.

Creative Arts Therapy combines the magic of self-expression with therapeutic techniques to support our mental and emotional growth, including: painting, sculpting, writing, clay therapy, sand play, and more. I’ll help guide you through, so you can tap into your innermost thoughts and emotions, allowing your mind to flow freely and find release. This process will help you gain insight, manage stress, and enhance your self-esteem.

In a world where we all feel lost and disconnected at times, reconnect and rediscover yourself through Art Therapy.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, looking to boost your creativity, or simply seeking a new form of self-care, Creative Arts Therapy could be your path to transformation.

Unleash your imagination and let the colours of your soul paint a brighter future!

Frequently Asked Questions about Creative Art Therapy:

Making a “pretty picture” is not the objective of art therapy, it’s all in the process. Each person is inherently creative, and formal art training can sometimes hinder free expression. My role is to introduce you to various art mediums and techniques that can assist you in expressing yourself creatively.

As my sessions are virtual-only for now, you will need to provide your own materials. Don’t worry though, most of the materials we can start with can probably be found around your house– pens, paper, natural materials from outside and even some everyday household items. You’ve got me to help guide you and the beauty of imagination to make the most of the materials you’ve got to work with.

No, I will not. I believe that only you truly know what the artwork means. Sometimes a meaning may reveal itself to you from our process of exploring, associating, and discovering together.

When we meet, we will start with a conversation about your situation and any challenges you may be facing. I will listen carefully to your thoughts and feelings, and we will work together to identify areas that you would like to explore more deeply. Then, I will invite you to use art materials to create something in response to what we have discussed. I may suggest a specific type of art-making, or you may have a strong sense of what you would like to create. Either way, I will be there to support you throughout the process.

Once you have finished creating your artwork, we will explore it together. We will reflect on the elements of the process and the artwork that you have made. This reflection can lead to important insights about yourself and your situation. By using art as a tool for self-expression and reflection, you can gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts and emotions, and develop new ways of coping with challenges.

Talk therapy is absolutely necessary and can be such a useful tool for those needing to express themselves in words. But what do we do for people who struggle to find the words to express themselves? Did you know the language centre in the brain (left hemisphere of the brain) can shut down or go “offline” due to trauma, depression and even stress. When talk therapy doesn’t seem to work, creative expression via art, painting, drawing, craft making, dance, mask making and other creative outlets can give people their greatest expression.

It’s important to understand that there is no wrong way to engage in therapy, it is entirely up to the individual and what works better for them.

Like therapy, this is totally dependent on the therapeutic goals and the situation the client is in. Sometimes clients have short-term goals, so they only attend 1 session, but that is enough for them to get what they need out of the session. But other times, clients need to see an art therapist for months, or years. You get the therapeutic benefit of art therapy, most likely from the first session. But depending on your needs, you can continue the process for ongoing support. Art therapy is a unique form of therapy that uses art as a medium to help individuals express themselves and explore their emotions. However, the duration of art therapy may vary depending on the individual’s therapeutic goals and their specific situation.

If we’re not in the same time zone, please reach out to me here and I’d be happy to discuss some mutually convenient times for us to have a session together.
